From Ashes to Architecture: How to Lead as Both an Eagle and an Architect

Recently, I had the privilege of conducting a transformative workshop titled From Ashes to Architecture: Building Community, Wealth, and Legacy Through Visionary Leadership. Throughout our time in The Eagles & Architects Writers & Leaders Lab, we anchored our work in a powerful, relatable sentiment:

"Thank God I don't look like what I've been through"

Life often leaves us with "ashes," representing broken spaces in our personal lives, our communities, or our professional spaces. But as leaders, we are called to look at those ashes and see a foundation. We are called to step into a dual mandate where we must be both the Eagle and the Architect.

Embracing the Eagle: The Visionary

Every great building starts with a blueprint. As the Eagle, you are the visionary of your life and community. Eagles soar in revelation and receive the "Divine Blueprint" through focused prayer. To lead effectively, you must embrace the authority of your assignment and be willing to lead right from where you are.

Embracing the Architect: The Builder

However, a vision without execution remains just a dream. This is where the Architect comes in. The Architect is the builder who takes the divine vision and translates it into immediate, actionable steps. It is the Architect's job to create structure through action, ultimately turning those ashes into architecture and building a lasting legacy.

During the workshop, we explored how to practically apply this "Eagle & Architect" blueprint to two vital areas of our lives:

1. Building Your Community

To build a thriving community, you have to move from inspiration to practical steps. We focused on how to:

  • Define a Shared Vision: Write down a clear vision statement for your community.
  • Identify Core Values: Establish 3 to 5 guiding principles that will direct your group's actions.
  • Map Your Network: Look around your existing circle and identify who already shares this vision and can help you build.

2. Strategizing for Wealth

Transforming ashes to architecture also means building sustainable wealth and resources. A strategic plan for wealth building requires:

  • Divine Strategy & Honest Assessment: It starts with a prayer focus over specific areas of your financial life and taking an honest look at where you currently stand.
  • Creating Value & Stewardship: Ask yourself what problems you can solve that people would pay for. Once you find those value creation opportunities, it is essential to set stewardship goals to ensure you are managing your resources with absolute integrity.

What Are You Called to Build?

I want to leave you with the same questions I asked our workshop attendees: What "ashes" in your life or community are you being called to transform? What fears or obstacles do you need to overcome to step into this leadership role?

Do not just sit with the vision. Draft your 30 day vision, embrace your inner Eagle and Architect, and start building your legacy today.
